Preparation for the First Communion in the Family

Abstract

Receiving the First Holy Communion is a crucial stage in a child’s religious education and in establishing their personal relationship with God. The parish community and school catechesis offer a thorough preparation for this sacrament, however it is the child’s parents whose role is the most important and irreplaceable in this process. It should be noted that it is not a one-time event, which lasts for a limited period of time; the preparation for the First Holy Communion should be an element of the overall religious education that should take place within the family. The parents’ optimal attitude is when the child can see their personal relationship with God on a daily basis, and when parents help the child discover a friend in God who understands, loves, and teaches us to love in every situation.
