Abstract

The history of models of prophylaxis shows that models applied in past decades are inefficient. The first of these was the moralizing model, based on frightening with the consequences of addiction and appealing to good will and to conscience. Of little effect was also the intellectualizing model, that is, one based on transmitting knowledge on the subject of addiction, its mechanisms and consequences. Hardly effective too is at present the psychologizing model, which mainly consists of teaching children and youth emotional assertiveness in order that they may cope better with painful emotions. This model does not remove the causes of painful emotions. The only effective model of prophylaxis of addiction is the teaching of children and youth such attitudes and ties which lead them to development and joy. It also prevents all and not just some problematic behaviour.
